Getting Started

Step 1: Answer a few questions about your household

file

You should have received one diary for each TV in your home. Please begin by answering all the questions in at least one diary; however, it would be useful to answer all the questions in all the diaries. We would like you to answer questions 3-6 in Step 1 in all diaries. This helps us identify the TV viewing for each diary.

Step 2: Let us know what channels you receive

file

For each TV set in your household, please provide a list of the channels that TV receives. You can either attach a list of the channels, or write in the station name, number and city for all the channels that can be received by a particular TV.

Step 3: Tell us about the people who watch TV in your home

file

Record the first names of each person in your household. You should also include any visitors who watch TV in your home by writing “visitor”. Include the age, gender, and number of working hours per week for members of your household that are employed (for anyone not working, write 0).

There can be both a male and a female head of household.

Column 1: The male head of house is the male's name listed on your home's lease, deed, or mortgage. Leave this column blank if there is no male head of household.

Column 2: The female head of house is the female's name listed on your home's lease, deed, or mortgage. Leave this column blank if there is no female head of household.

Columns 3 – 9: Write the names of other household members who are not the male or female head of house in these columns. TV On No One Watching or Listening: Use this column to indicate that the TV is "ON", but no one is watching or listening. Mark an "X" and draw a line down to indicate the length of time the TV is "ON", and no one is watching or listening.
